About
Who we are
Edmund Barton Chambers comprises more than 50 barristers providing advocacy and advice in a range of areas of the law. We were established in 1979 are are one of the largest sets of chambers in Sydney.
We are located in the heart of Sydney, close to State and Federal Law Courts.
The Chambers is named after Sir Edmund Barton, a Sydney barrister who served as Australia’s first prime minister (1901-1903) and became a founding justice of the High Court of Australia (1903-1920).
What we do
Our barristers appear in all courts, tribunals and other bodies in New South Wales and at a Federal level. Our barristers also advise and appear in matters interstate and overseas.
We provide advice and assistance at all stages of disputes. We also provide legal advice in non-contentious matters and represent clients in mediation and alternative dispute resolution.
A number of our barristers are respected and experienced mediators and arbitrators. Mediation facilities are available in chambers.
Who can instruct us
We act for a wide range of clients, from private individuals to companies, governments and insurers.
We can be instructed through Australian solicitors (including in-house lawyers). In some cases we can accept instructions directly from non-lawyers (that is, without a solicitor being involved). Our clerk will be happy to assist with any queries.
